Angular Kelitis – What Is It?

Angular Kelitis, or Angular Cheilitis, to give it its correct spelling, is a condition where the corners of the mouth become sore and infected.

No-one is quite sure yet exactly what causes Angular Cheilitis, there are various potential causes of this condition.

Some of the possible causes of Angular Cheilitis are:

  1. A vitamen deficiency of some sort
  2. Low immune system leading to a fungus overgrowth in the moist areas in the corners of the mouth. It is thought that Angular Cheilitis is a type of fungal yeast infection
  3. The symptoms of Angular Cheilitis can be worsened by an additional bacterial infection although the bacterial infection is normally seen as a secondary infection, following on an already weakened immune system

Cures And Medication for Angular Kelitis (Angular Cheilitis)

Most of the time Angular Cheilitis is treated as a fungal infection and the standard medication for it is therefore fungal creams, mixed with cortisone creams or anti-bacterial ointments.

The problem with these creams is that they need to be applied topically to the corners of the mouth, and is often ingested along with food and saliva. Cortisone has some side-effects on the body that can be detrimental to health, and normally these creams do not offer a long term solution and in fact, might become less effective over time as the body builds up an immunity against it.

The only long term solution for Angular Cheilitis is to make use of this natural solution.
